ABSTRACT
In this account, Daroga Mukhopadhay narrates the tale of Daroga Bansiram’s investigation of a homicide in the village of Santoshpur. Bansiram’s investigation of the murder of Nabakumar threw up very few leads and clues and he was forced to seek the assistance of another daroga. The two darogas then uncovered a few things about Nabakumar’s young wife Promoda, as a result of which the finger of suspicion began to point at her. Promoda vehemently refuted the allegations made against her. But was she telling the truth? And who was Hari and what was his role in the murder? Daroga Bansiram would face many obstacles on the way to disentangling the truth behind the bludgeoning of Nabakumar on a lonely lane.
