ABSTRACT

The account begins with the arrest of a young man after he was found inside a carriage holding a blood-stained knife, with the bloodied corpse of a young woman lying in front of him. Daroga Mukhopadhyay is called to help with the investigation when the young man confessed to having committed the murder, but stubbornly refused to divulge who he was. The daroga’s long-drawn and convoluted investigation to dig up the tight-lipped young man’s identity involved several journeys and meetings with various people to find leads. Once the daroga was able to find out who the young man was, this then led to the truth about what had really happened in the carriage and why the “killer” had been reluctant to disclose his identity.
