ABSTRACT
Daroga Mukhopadhyay begins the account by talking of the day when he received a letter from a well-known babu, containing an urgent plea for help. Upon reaching his house, he found the place full of police officers who had gathered there to investigate the mystery of the iron chest found in the babu’s house containing the decomposing body of an unknown woman. After Mukhopadhyay was asked to take charge of the case, he began what turned into an extremely challenging investigation with multiple potential suspects. It took a truly tenacious and skilled daroga to get past all the setbacks and make ingenious connections that finally unravelled all the knots that had made this case particularly difficult and frustrating.
