ABSTRACT
This case of the headless corpse discovered in an apartment in the Mathaghasha Lane of Kolkata proved a particularly difficult one to solve, as the identity of the victim remained shrouded in mystery for a very long time. Before Daroga Mukhopadhyay could embark on investigating the identity of the killer, he had to ascertain the identity of the dead woman. Despite their tireless efforts, the daroga and his team had to face repeated disappointments and frustrating dead-ends. Finally, Mukhopadhyay uncovered the tragic tale of a young widow’s unconventional friendship, her sexual rebelliousness and the price she had to pay for it that lay at the heart of the macabre killing.
