ABSTRACT
There is a brief description of normalizing, that is, helping the client realize that what they feel is strange or different is actually common and normal. Norman was guided through normalization. This leads into a discussion of normalizing in other circumstances. There is also a presentation and discussion of the YAVIS Syndrome (an acronym that stands for Young, Attractive, Verbal, Intelligent, and Successful). It has been postulated that YAVIS clients receive more attention from therapists and subsequently there are better outcomes.
