ABSTRACT

Since it is most important for your client to trust you and be comfortable in the session, this chapter contains a review of rapport building and the importance of the therapeutic alliance. There is a discussion of pacing and leading, representational systems, eye accessing cues, and the use of anchors and anchoring. Remen’s healing circle (discussed in Chapter 3) uses anchoring, which is a way of reproducibly imbuing in a client certain memories and states. There is also a discussion as to how to use Remen’s healing circle for psychotherapy, especially in group work.
