ABSTRACT
Hegel’s political theory proposes that forces inherent in history inevitably move politics to embrace the idea of a civil society in which each individual is accorded the same rights as others. The inevitability of this progress is the basis for Hegel’s understanding that reason guides history. Hegel’s belief that the state is responsible for bringing about the ideal political world is influential in liberal political thinking as well as the communist philosophy of Karl Marx.
