ABSTRACT
This chapter outlines the key elements in the political philosophy of Karl Marx. In particular, the Marxist idea that civil society operates in a capitalist system to provide economic advantage to those in power. In addition to a description of exploitation, alienation, and Marx’s vision of a communist revolution, the chapter also draws a comparison to Adam Smith’s views and suggests how Marx would likely respond.
