ABSTRACT

This chapter considers Wilson’s approach at the Treaty of Versailles in Paris. The chapter overviews Wilson’s integral role in creating the League of Nations and his goals for its formation. The portion on the Russian Revolution overviews Wilson’s attempts to engage with the Bolsheviks and Vladimir Lenin. It then summarizes the debates over the Allied intervention into the Soviet Union and Wilson’s position on western involvement in the Russian Civil War. The chapter then considers Wilson’s views on colonialism, ultimately leading to the creation of League of Nation mandates to manage Germany’s former colonies. The chapter also overviews Wilson’s approach to different regions of the world including Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. It concludes by surveying Wilson and the conference’s treatment of Germany in the final treaty, including the debates over German democratic reforms, reparation payments, disarmament, and war guilt.
