ABSTRACT

I have tried to cover fundamentals, process, listening and questioning, conflict resolution, many models and frameworks, skills, advanced skills and methods. Not all are applicable in every circumstance and part of the facilitator’s job is to ascertain what is relevant to the particular group at a particular time. They can be condensed into the key points here. To avoid some common pitfalls, remember these key points:

Resist temptation to teach, facilitate.

Resist temptation to answer questions, reflect them back.

Resist temptation to convince, use questions.

Resist temptation to sermonise, make the conversation flow.

Resist temptation to prescribe, help participants to see the bigger picture.
