ABSTRACT

On December 2, 2010, the executive committee of the international football association FIFA, using an anonymous voting procedure, determined the hosts for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA world cup tournaments. Allegations of corruption related to the voting process had surfaced even before the final vote that December day in Zürich in Switzerland. Ever since, there have been persistent allegations of misconduct with respect to the selection process. In 2017, British newspaper The Guardian reported that a FIFA official took bribes to back Qatar’s 2022 world cup bid.
