ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses the evolution of law and development studies since the 1970s. It explains law and development “movements,” identifying the key issues and proposed solutions associated with each of these movements. This chapter also examines relevant academic approaches, such as the neoliberal and institutional approaches. This chapter also assesses the path forward and discusses how some of the difficulties observed in the past can be leveraged into future success in the study of law and development.
