ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the EFIT Tango. This is the basic set of therapist macro-interventions used across the three Stages of EFIT. It consists of five Moves. These consist of: mirroring present emotional and relational self-reinforcing patterns that block growth; affect assembly and deepening to elicit new experience; choreographing new encounters with the therapist, parts of self or imagined attachment figures; processing and reflecting on these enactments; integrating and validating what has been learned. A tango is a dance based on attunement and mutual resonance structured by emotional music. At first you have to learn the steps but then you dance it from muscle memory and can flexibly play with moves and music. The Tango offers the therapist a touchstone and a compass in every session.
