ABSTRACT

Sometimes, the line between academia and the world of industrial or corporate security was almost imperceptible. Nowadays, think tanks, the Central Intelligence Agency, most intelligence services produce such security forecast, available to a wide audience. Life does not always confirm these predictions, but the exercise is essential, and security practitioners should follow suit. Uncovering the future fascinates humans and have done so for immemorial times. Examples are numerous of oracles predicting the issue of a battle by deciphering the viscera of sacrificed birds, goats and sometimes humans. But a bit like with alchemy, a disappointing science, one does not transform lead in gold and the future will remain for all of us unreadable and will condemn us to renewed surprises. Cyberattacks are often less spectacular – there are no destruction, no blood, no noise, no cadavers. But they can be extremely effective.
