ABSTRACT

Chapter eight describes the role of competitors in shaping sustainable development in mining enterprises. This chapter begins with a statistical review of the consumption of renewable and non-renewable energy resources in examined regions, together with the identification of the main development trends in this area. In this context, the main complementary and substitution resources compared to traditional energy resources are indicated. In the second section, based on the review of case studies, an attempt is made to answer the following questions: How does competition stimulate best practices in sustainable development? How do renewable resources force cleaner excavating? Finally, in the third section, international competition on the energy raw materials market is presented as a power forcing sustainable development of mining enterprises in the ecological aspect, indicating the directions for further development of these initial, favourable trends.
