ABSTRACT

In this introduction we state the desired objective and contribution of the book, we define the main target audience, and we briefly introduce the conceptual and methodological inspirations and approaches. Subsequently, we make a brief introduction of the contents of the three parts and the different chapters of the book. The main objective and contribution of the book are to present a long-term understanding of the Indian path of economic development from a Latin American perspective, paying special attention to the (geo)political, technological, financial, and institutional aspects related to the specific geographical and demographical features of the Indian subcontinent. The main target audiences are the Latin American and the South Asian development economic scholars. We adopt a long-term methodological approach, in line with the historical structuralism of Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC). The three parts of the book refer to the Indian peripherisation, statebuilding, and demand-led growth.
