ABSTRACT
The introduction to a research report is where we will briefly lay out what the research is about and what our study accomplished; it should be concise and precise. The introduction offers a value proposition about what our study will deliver, which begins with making a case for the importance of our research topic. For all writers and types of writing, the first step in making composing decisions is defining the target audience and their expectations. Typically, the research report launches into the introduction of the topic and proceeds to review the literature immediately following the abstract, without a main heading that says “Introduction.” Introductory comments are commonly integrated with the literature review. A combined introduction/literature review should end with a statement of the specific research hypotheses, purposes, and/or questions.
