ABSTRACT

Results of personal examinations and scientific testing may be admitted in criminal trials when the testing methods and the results have been shown to be accurate and to offer assistance to the factfinder in rendering a decision. This section presents a variety of standardized testing procedures that cover human tissue analysis, blood-alcohol testing, and polygraph examination, as well as fingerprint comparisons, ballistics analysis, DNA testing, and other tests that may be found to offer accurate and relevant information. This section includes the theoretical requirements for the introduction of the results of various standardized tests and provides a framework for admitting newer testing procedures that have not yet been subjected to reliability over time.
