ABSTRACT

In this Introduction to the 2nd edition, we discuss why the book is needed now more than ever and note the ways that we have updated the evidence and our discussions, including attending to the language we use and our commitment to addressing diversity. We explain how the book should be used as a ‘thoughtful guide’ intended to stimulate thinking, reflection and discussion. The book contains many resources to support the development of thoughtfulness. These take the form of Research Briefings, Recommended Reading lists and Reflective Activities, most of which can be easily adapted for online teaching and learning.
