ABSTRACT

Chapter 11 discusses Social Network Analysis (SNA), a methodology specifically designed to illuminate hidden social networks: how to identify them, how to analyse them and how to benefit from them in the teams, organisations and communities in which we operate. An organisational chart or organogram is a crude representation of an organisation’s social network. It is a schematic diagram which aims to capture the complexity of an organisation in a logical cause and effect diagram, showing its structure in terms of the reporting relationships between individuals, departments and teams. SNA helps us to see the true nature of organisations.
