ABSTRACT

Chapter 18 explores Leading in a Different Way. Leading is often characterised as providing answers. We follow because leaders have, or appear to have, the solution to our problems. Leading in a Different Way turns this assumption on its head. Leading beyond authority is about leading with insights and ideas, but it is also counter-intuitively about leading with questions rather than providing answers. It also requires a sense of managerial irreverence, an approach that questions received wisdom and the way we do things around here.
