ABSTRACT

The security environment of the Gulf and the wider Middle East has significantly influenced how the United States and its allies have developed and employed intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR). At all levels, from the strategic to the street, ISR is now an essential enabler in supporting military operations. The presence – or absence – of ISR can be decisive in whether a mission goes ahead. In turn, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) has benefited and drawn lessons from the US ISR systems deployed to and operated in theatre.
