ABSTRACT

A reflective practitioner automatically engages with research methods and a continuous process of critical analysis right at the start of a body of work. A photographer or artist concerned with theoretical discourses will test applying various theoretical concepts through their practice: a very specialized approach. Photographers frequently use a wall in their studio or home to pin or tape up images they are testing out. The photographer may put up different sized prints next to each other to try to judge how changes in scale affect an image or series of images. A professional photographer working outside of academia will not always concern themselves with the same kind of research ethics as academics, but it is likely they will have an ethical code of their own based on personal political beliefs and also informed by the relevant laws that apply where they are working.
