ABSTRACT

This profile of Maharaja Kishan Prashad, the Nizam’s Prime Minister in two different stints, begins with a brief historical account of the arrival in Hyderabad of Mulchand, a descendant of Raja Todarmal from Emperor Akbar’s Court and Maharaja Kishan Prashad’s ancestor. Kishan Prashad was initially the peshkar to the Nizam for ten years. He was first appointed Prime Minister by the Sixth Nizam, Mehboob Ali Khan, in 1901. Then follows an account of Kishan Prashad’s lifestyle, of his administration – both as peshkar and Prime Minister –and of his efforts to initiate various reforms in Hyderabad.
