ABSTRACT
This introductory chapter presents the general background of health communication research in the various Chinese contexts, an account of different issues reported from previous empirical studies conducted by Chinese scholars that have explored the role of communication in various clinical settings, and a review of the research trends on health communication in Chinese contexts. It then provides an outline of the subsequent chapters of the book and highlights the significance of such health communication research in the Chinese contexts.
