ABSTRACT

Much of the research conducted in Europe since the early stages of EMI implementation has attempted to describe the challenges that the shift to a different vehicular language can pose to higher education students. The body of literature on the phenomenon has thus highlighted several critical areas, which can be classified as student-dependent and context-dependent. The aim of this chapter is to explore whether the participants in the present study perceived any challenges related to studying in an EMI environment. These will be illustrated through examples of the comments that they shared in their responses to the questionnaire, in the interviews and in the focus group.
