ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to investigate whether the non-native English-speaking students who took part in the present study perceived any differences between learning subject content in an EMI environment and learning them in their first language (L1). The chapter will draw on the views that the study participants shared in their responses to the questionnaire, the interviews and in the focus group. In addition to presenting potential areas of difference, the chapter will tackle the controversial issue of content loss in EMI by exploring the students’ perceptions as to whether English-Medium Instruction represents a barrier to content learning.
