ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book outlines the central role played by attitudes in explaining the readers’ coachees’ disturbed and constructive responses to adversities. It provides the reader with a working knowledge of common emotional problems that they are likely to encounter in the course of their career as a coach and an understanding of what constitutes healthy alternatives to these emotional problems. The book presents a step-by-step guide to dealing with the readers' coachees’ emotional problems when these problems explain why coachees become stuck in the coaching process. This guide is based on the insights of a therapeutic tradition known as cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and particularly on the ideas of Dr. Albert Ellis, the founder of rational emotive behavior therapy, a distinctive approach within the CBT tradition.
