ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines a step-by-step guide showing the reader how to deal with their coachee’s emotional problem when it serves as an obstacle to her working towards her personal development objectives. Many people experience emotional problems that temporarily derail them, but they are able to get to grips with them and move on and this may well be the case with coachee. An inference is an interpretation that coachee made about the situation that she was in that was related to her emotional response but which went beyond the data at hand. When the readers focus on an emotional obstacle to the pursuit of coachee’s personal development objectives in the context of coaching, they will only be dealing with a single specific problem. Some people are able to compartmentalise and pursue objectives in one area of their lives, while being emotionally bogged down in another area.
