ABSTRACT
This short final chapter explores why the book has generally evaded the question of the female clerk, primarily due to the absence of a possible comparatist mode. The chapter contains a brief survey of the female clerk in nineteenth-century London. It then explores the social and cultural milieu of women in nineteenth-century Calcutta and how a possible interface could be tenuous.
