ABSTRACT

Innovation and creativity drive organizations adaptability, performance and ultimate survival. However, few businesses and institutions are willing to make changes to the systemic inadequacies and CLOGS to innovation. CLOGS stands for Complacency, Lazy, Obsolete, Gatekeeper and Stopgaps. This chapter makes recommendations about the way forward to innovation. It examines the human aspects that get in the way of progress. The chapter proposes three steps to consider in one’s organizational culture. Step one includes fixing the company culture and recognizing the 10 dimensions of organizational culture. Some of the topics explored include bias, fix yourself first, fix discrimination, hiring practices, common practices and some basic suggestions. Step two focuses on those who lead organizations. The topics address three types of leaders (maintainer, manager and leader). Step three focuses on how a good leader can lead and build a culture of innovation.
