ABSTRACT

Understanding that we are one with Nature, a species within species, is a powerful spiritual experience that can shape behaviors leading to a more harmonious relationship with each other and all beings. How can we develop such a sense of belonging in and with Nature, as opposed to the more anthropocentric understanding that Nature is something that we need or has to be cared for? The anthropocentric paradigm is connected with values such as control, dominion, separation and fragmentation, autonomy and independence, achievement, and progress, which are at the root of many of our planetary challenges. The experience of oneness with Nature (and all that is) can help us find our way back home. And educators can develop this.
