ABSTRACT
Due to changes in society, teaching reading has become a necessity for social studies teachers, and traditionally, middle and high school teachers have had less training in the theory and best practices of reading instruction. This chapter introduces candidates to the fundamental principles of reading instruction and pre-reading, reading, and post-reading options.
