ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of the key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of the book. The book explains that the pandemic has not only ended a million lives, it has profoundly changed significant features of our existence. The economy, employment, technology, the media, and the provision of medical services are only the most conspicuous elements that COVID-19 has shaken. The significant differences in the individual responses to the challenges posed by the pandemic demonstrate the role of country-specific cultures and approaches. The Swedish and Japanese approaches rely on trust in collective responsibility rather than stringent lockdown provisions compelling the wearing of masks and adopting approved social behaviour. The pandemic has revealed a number of weaknesses in the structure and operation of the civil services of most nations. It has also exposed the vulnerability of the economic order; the frantic compulsion to avoid collapse has occluded the elimination of the impediments to greater efficiency.
