ABSTRACT

The clausal connective ~(으)면서 is used when two actions (or states) are carried out simultaneously by the same subject. It corresponds to “while” in English. ~(으)면서 is a two-form ending: ~으면서 is used after a stem that ends in a consonant (e.g., 먹으면서 “while eating”); ~면서 is used after a stem that ends in a vowel (e.g., 마시면서 “while drinking”).
