ABSTRACT

The clausal connective ~ (으)면 is used to express that the first clause is the condition of the main clause. It is equivalent to “if” and/or “when” in English. It is a two-form ending: ~으면 is used after a stem that ends in a consonant (e.g., 먹으면 “if I eat”); ~면 is used after a stem that ends in a vowel (e.g., 보면 “if I see”).
