ABSTRACT

Along with a positive working culture, teachers want to feel like they are getting better. It is very rare to find a teacher who considers themselves to be the ‘finished product’, perhaps because of the nature of the job: our entire trade is learning. We are invested in the idea that children are always learning, and therefore we automatically carry this expectation into our own lives. A friendly and happy staff culture where people are held to account for what they are expected to do is therefore not enough: we must also help teachers to develop. In this chapter, we’re going to explore the many facets of teacher development and how we can ensure our school are places where people can grow year on year.
