ABSTRACT
Why can’t schools make children happy? The same reason well-meaning parents and adoring friends can’t make children happy. Happiness that relies on things that are external is fragile and liable to break. Intuitively we know that when our happiness depends on externals – other people, things, our jobs – it can be easily lost by the random unfairness of the world.
