ABSTRACT

The nature of genes in relation to behaviour is introduced. Exogenous and endogenous control of behaviour is explained. The genetics and brain areas involved in aggression, antisocial behaviour, psychopathic and criminal behaviour are discussed. Introversion versus extroversion is explored. The biology of creativity and perfectionism are discussed, and the mental health benefits for mental health of physical exercise are explained. The pathophysiology of the behavioural disorders, notably attention deficit disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and dysexecutive syndrome, are discussed. The normal physiology of normal appetite control and the eating disorders anorexia, bulimia and obesity are discussed. The body mass index is explained.
