ABSTRACT

The objective of this chapter, new to this edition, is to place U.S. housing policy in an international context. The chapter compares key aspects of U.S. housing policy to housing policy in three other English-speaking countries: Australia, Canada, and the United Kingdom. The chapter focuses in particular on homeownership, rental subsidies, and fair housing. It also compares the countries in terms of housing tenure, housing finance, physical characteristics of the housing stock, homelessness, and housing affordability.
