ABSTRACT

It is no secret that psychologists wear many hats. Between assessment, therapy, training, research, and consultation, we are fortunate to provide care to our clients via diverse avenues. As neuropsychologists, we use assessment to better understand the brain bases for behavior. While we attended school for many years to hone our skills, I’ve never heard of psychometrist training included as a component of any required coursework. This book was initially conceptualized as a guidebook for busy neuropsychologists faced with training their newly hired psychometrist. However, it also may be a resource for graduate student trainees and other assessment-focused professionals looking to enhance their skills and refine their testing knowledge. Nonetheless, given the lack of information about how a neuropsychologist should train their psychometrists to date, this book first and foremost endeavors to fill that gap. This book is a compilation of many sources of data, integrated into one condensed training guide. It is my hope that this book serves as a framework and guide for neuropsychologists training their newly hired psychometrists, with the ultimate goal of improving patient care across diverse neuropsychological settings.
