ABSTRACT

The Introduction sets out the intended audience and the goals of the work, accompanied by an overview of the core principles, concepts, and themes that support the achievement of these goals. The timeliness of the work is highlighted in relation to the growing interest in ethics in translation and interpreting studies and in professional education, and the increasing importance of effective intercultural communication in resolving pressing issues facing humanity. It highlights the limited available empirical research on the potential of different pedagogical interventions to cultivate ethical responsibility and foster moral development. As a consequence, the activities suggested across the chapters show how academic research from TI studies and beyond can be leveraged to develop pedagogical interventions, while stressing that they principally serve as a means to open up debate on teaching and learning, rather than constituting a statement of “what works”. An overview of each chapter is also provided.
