ABSTRACT

The case study concerns the public spaces of HafenCity in Hamburg, northern Germany, a 155-hectare area, involved in a wide operation of urban regeneration which started in 1998. Regarding activities which are present in the Grasbrook playground, the main ones concern playing, picnicking, taking a break, educational, socialization and passer-by activity. The whole operation is coordinated by a limited liability private company, HafenCity Hamburg GmbH, owned by the Free Hanseatic City of Hamburg, which manages relations between the public and the private sector.
