ABSTRACT

Madrid, the capital of Spain and its most populous city, is crossed by the Manzanares River and is characterized by the presence of many parks and gardens, including the contemporary Madrid Rio, the object of this study. The on-site visits consist in the observation of the places in order to decide what parts include or not in the study area. In the case of the Madrid Rio Park, due to its urban continuity, long extension, it was decided to focus the attention on the park itself in its entireness. The first survey concerns the kind of people which use this place. The majority of people is constituted by locals, residents and professionals of all ages. Playing with the “tirolina”, playing tennis, doing gymnastics using the equipment of the park and meeting for doing together open-air gymnastic are actions which are carried out with a medium frequency by people of all age and mainly locals in the morning and afternoon hours.
