ABSTRACT
This chapter begins with a historical overview of issues in information integrity, so that readers understand how society’s understanding of the issues and concepts of plagiarism and data falsification have evolved over time. The incentives and disincentives for maintaining or falsifying information have also evolved over the course of the last century and may be part of the problem.
