ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at the full range of institutions that set rules for interpreting integrity issues in the scholarly and academic world. These institutions include academic and commercial publishers, universities, and national agencies, all of which set guidelines for authors. Technology plays a significant role in the ability of institutions to discover information integrity violations, and this chapter looks at some available tools, as well as some that are not yet available. Legal issues around information integrity are also discussed, especially those having to do with plagiarism.
