ABSTRACT
This chapter looks at classification and categorisation as integral elements of the measurement process and gives concrete examples for how to categorise information in ways that allow counting and aggregation. The chapter emphasises the need for transparency and uses examples from news stories. An important topic is also what happens when measurement fails, as can happen when it is not done correctly or when the data are flawed.
