ABSTRACT

In recent times, there has been immense progress in the field of computational linguistics and artificial intelligence. The ultimate goal is to make computer languages as close as possible to natural languages. This chapter traces the history of the development of computational linguistics, starting with the basic tasks like word segmentation and normalization to sentence segmentation and stemming. From these, we proceed to examine speech recognition and speech synthesis by using deep neural networks that are used in machine learning and the use of chatbots. Finally, the different biases that are seen in machine learning are noted.
