ABSTRACT

This chapter is divided into three sections: Section 1 introduces the notion of a morpheme: identification of morphemes, types of morphemes: zero, suppletion, blend, portmanteau; the difference between lexical and functional categories; morphological operations: inflections, derivations, compounding, reduplication; and morphological typology: analytic vs. synthetic. Section 2 deals with morpho-phonology, with an introduction to lexical phonology, and finally, Section 3 deals with morpho-syntax with a brief introduction to distributed morphology.
