ABSTRACT

One of the most interesting aspects of language is its acquisition by children. Plato’s problem deals with the problem of overgeneralization and retreat observed in children. The first section lists the stages of acquisition observed in children with regard to sounds, words, and sentences.

The second aspect of psycholinguistics deals with speech perception and processing, where different models like the COHORT, TRACE, Exemplar, and serial vs. parallel processing are discussed. The acquisition of the aspects of language in select Indian languages is presented.
